IP and private companies report

03 February, 2025

The report analyzes 12 experiences in 9 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean – Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Peru – in key sectors such as mining, food, tourism, gastronomy, energy and hydrocarbons. These cases were evaluated using indicators that include labor and commercial relationships, the origin of collaborations and the forms of interaction between companies and communities.

The study concludes that it is possible to establish mutually beneficial relationships between indigenous communities and private companies. However, challenges persist related to reducing socio-environmental impacts and compliance with international standards, such as free, prior and informed consent.
