It is in the American continent that the largest number of ratifications of the ILO Convention 169 on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples have been registered in Independent countries. In addition, a regional instrument, the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, was adopted in June 2016, while the countries were protagonists in the first elaboration and later adoption, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2017.
